Five Minute Morning Mind Declutter

Come with me on my journey to a positive midlife mindset.

Today I explore deepening the connection between decluttering my space and decluttering my mind. I’ve found a positive correlation between cleaning a space in the morning and having a positive mindset for the rest of the day. I noticed a lighter, more uplifting outlook when I took just five minutes to clean a space.

What Works for Me

  • I do this exercise one morning per week.
  • I start my day by visualizing a small space in my house that needs decluttering or cleaning.
  • The space can be a counter, a drawer, or a portion of a closet.
  • I think about what I need to complete the decluttering.
  • I spend five minutes completing the actual clearing.

My Process

  • I select a day per week to do this exercise.
  • I select a space and visualize it completely clean and neat.
  • I take a few minutes to decide the process of cleaning that space.
  • I take three deep breaths before starting and three deep breaths after to center my mind.
  • I carve five minutes into my morning to clean that space.
